Thyroid disease

Thyroid disease refers to conditions that affect the thyroid gland, a small, butterfly-shaped gland in the neck that controls how your body uses energy. It does this by making hormones that regulate metabolism, heart rate, temperature, and more.

The most common types are hypothyroidism (when the thyroid is underactive and doesn’t make enough hormones) and hyperthyroidism (when it is overactive and makes too much). Symptoms can include fatigue, weight changes, mood changes, and temperature sensitivity.

With proper diagnosis and treatment, thyroid disease can be managed and most people can live healthy, normal lives.
